How a Mud Cleaner Works

 

The mud cleaner process involves the following steps: inflow, cyclone separation, screening, and removal of the cleaning fluid.

First, drilling fluid containing solids and impurities flows from the borehole into the mud cleaner. Next, the drilling fluid passes through a series of cyclones, which use centrifugal force to separate the solids from the drilling fluid. In this case, the drilling fluid flows out of the top of the cyclones, while the separated solids collect at the bottom. To further separate finer particles, vibrating screens filter the effluent and any remaining solids. Finally, the cleaned drilling fluid is discharged from the mud cleaner and returned to the mud recirculation system for reuse, while the separated solids are typically collected for further processing.
